Child Safety Standards
EchoDrop · Effective Date: July 31, 2026
EchoDrop has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). This page sets out our published standards against CSAE, how users can report it, how we act on those reports, and how to contact us. It applies to every part of the EchoDrop app.
1. Prohibited conduct and content
The following are strictly prohibited on EchoDrop and are grounds for immediate, permanent removal from the service:
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in any form — images, video, audio, text, or links.
- Any content that sexualises a minor, including material that is drawn, computer-generated, AI-generated, or otherwise synthetic.
- Grooming: building trust with a minor in order to sexually exploit or abuse them, including requests for secrecy, isolation from friends or family, sexualised conversation, requests for images, offers of gifts, attempts to move the conversation to another platform, and attempts to arrange an in-person meeting.
- Sextortion, or threatening to share a minor's intimate images.
- Trafficking, solicitation, or advertising the sexual exploitation of a minor.
- Inappropriate contact with a minor by an adult, whether or not it is explicitly sexual.
These rules also appear in our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, which every user accepts when creating an account.
2. Age requirements
- EchoDrop is for users aged 13 and over. Accounts are age-gated at sign-up by date of birth, and users under 13 are blocked from creating an account.
- Accounts aged 13–17 receive restricted defaults: a private profile, contact limited to accepted connections, and no access to features that match users with strangers.
- Features that connect users to strangers, including anonymous matching, are limited to adults and this restriction is enforced on our servers, not only in the app.
- Rate limits and additional safeguards apply to adult accounts attempting to contact minor accounts.
3. How to report CSAE in the app
Every user-generated surface in EchoDrop offers a reporting mechanism. Users do not need an account of their own to reach us — see the contact details below.
- A person: open their profile → menu → Report user. Report reasons include grooming and inappropriate contact with a minor.
- A direct message or conversation: open the chat → header menu → Report or Block.
- A post, capsule, comment, or audio clip: long-press the item, or open its overflow menu, and choose Report.
- Blocking: any user can block another user immediately, which severs contact between the accounts.
Reports about child safety are prioritised over all other report types.
4. How we act on reports
- Proactive detection. Uploaded images are automatically screened for child sexual abuse material before they are published, using a combination of classification and hashing. Suspected matches are blocked and escalated for human review.
- On-device grooming detection. Conversations involving a minor account are analysed on the device itself for known grooming patterns. Only the detected pattern category and a confidence score are ever transmitted — never the content of the messages.
- Human review. An automated signal is never treated as a conclusion. A trained reviewer confirms every child-safety case before enforcement.
- Enforcement. Confirmed CSAE results in immediate permanent banning of the account (enforced in our database, so a banned account cannot post, message, or sign in), removal of the content from public surfaces, and preservation of the evidence.
- Notice and appeal. Users are told when action is taken against their account and may appeal, except where notifying them would obstruct a law-enforcement investigation.
5. Legal compliance and reporting to authorities
- We report apparent child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) through its CyberTipline, as required of electronic service providers under 18 U.S.C. § 2258A.
- We preserve the associated evidence for at least one year, as required by the REPORT Act, including where the account is subsequently deleted.
- We cooperate with valid legal requests from law enforcement, and we may report to relevant national authorities in the user's jurisdiction.
- Our practices are designed to meet applicable child-safety requirements, including the UK Online Safety Act and the EU Digital Services Act.
6. Point of contact
7. Review of these standards
These standards are reviewed at least annually and whenever we ship a change that materially affects child safety on EchoDrop.
